New Ironman 70.3 Branson Race is a Possibility

It seems likely that we will see at least 2 new Ironman 70.3 triathlon races in 2010 in North America, one in Missouri and the other one in Colorado. The Ironman 70.3 Series currently consists of 33 half iron distance triathlon events around the world, see 2009 Ironman Race Schedule. An Ironman 70.3 event consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.

According to the Branson Daily News comes this:

"Last week, Ross Summers, president and CEO of the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, and Ryan Robinson, of Ironman, visited with Branson aldermen about the possibility of an Ironman event in Branson. Summers told the board he needs $75,000 from the Tourism Tax Contingency Fund to help bring the race to town." [via Chamber asks for help with ‘Ironman’ event]

According to the story, the new Ironman 70.3 Branson race would take place in September 2010 if race organizers can allocate some money from the local tourism fund to bring the race to town.

A new Ironman 70.3 Series race could also pop up in Colorado in 2010 based on the unofficial news that the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has bought 5430 Sports who runs the highly successful Boulder Triathlon Series. The series is comprised of the 5430 Sprint Triathlon, the Boulder Peak Triathlon, and the 5430 Long Course Triathlon. If it's true then most likely the 5430 Long Course Triathlon event would be re-branded as an Ironman 70.3 triathlon event. Stay tuned for additional details...
