The Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series is the new ITU triathlon series announced after the Olympic Games last year. The one of features of the series is that races are held in iconic cities around world such as Madrid, Hamburg, Kitzbühel, London, and Washington, DC with the Series Grand Finale in Gold Coast, Australia in September.
Washington, DC is the only North American stop in the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series which offers top level international competition. Race day is an exciting combination of two races: in the morning, age group triathletes race under USAT rules (non-drafting), followed by the professional/elite men and women racing under ITU rules (draft-legal).
Age group triathletes can choose from the Olympic distance (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run) or Sprint distance (750me swim, 20km bike, 5km run) triathlons. In both races, age groupers will finish in the same finish line arena as the elites on Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of downtown Washington, DC.
