The popular off-road triathlon race is headed to Oregon in 2009 with the inaugural XTERRA Portland race scheduled to take place at Hagg Lake in mid August. This race will consist of a 1000me Swim, 25km Mountain Bike and 4.25mi Trail Run in the luscious land of Scoggins Valley Park.
The swim will be in warm, calm Hagg Lake. The bike leg is relatively flat, but a technical course with sharp turns requiring quick and reactive decision-making as well as bursts of speed on short and steep climbs that will force the rider out of the saddle get the legs burning, and several rocky or root filled sections that will challenge the rider's agility, control, and balance. Runners will need to be light on their toes as they twist and turn through a windy up and down run course through some well-groomed and not so well-groomed trails.
The new XTERRA Portland race is part of the evolving and expanding XTERRA America Tour which will feature more than 60 XTERRA off-road triathlons in 35 states, the U.S. Territory of Guam and Commonwealth of Saipan in 2009.
Not many other details are available at this time as the website is currently being worked on. Race organizers have set up a "group" on facebook, called "XTERRAPortland" where you can stay in touch with the current status of the race, group rides, competitors, provide input, ect.
