Bill Burnett, Race Director of the Cohasset Triathlon in Cohasset, Massachusetts has launched the Commonwealth Triathlon Series, an exciting, high quality sprint distance series in the Boston metro area consisting of three races. The series will feature 2 new high caliber races (Marlborough Triathlon, Gloucester Triathlon) being set up by professional triathletes Jarrod Shoemakerand and Janda Ricci-Munn.

Triathlon: Cohasset Triathlon
When: Sunday, June 28, 2009 @ 8:00 AM
Where: Cohasset, Massachusetts, USA
Divisions: Age Group, Relays
Distance: 1/4 mile ocean swim, 12 mile bike, 3.2 mile run

In two years, the Cohasset Triathlon has become a premier short course race at the national level. The 2009 Cohasset Triathlon has been picked as the Northeast qualifier for the Team USA (16-19 age group) for Sprint Distance World Championships in Australia. In addition, the Cohasset Triathlon has been also been selected as the Special Qualifier Race for the 2009 Age Group Nationals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on August 22, 2009. The top 5 people per age group will qualify to race in Tuscaloosa.
Triathlon: Marlborough Triathlon
When: Sunday, July 26, 2009 - 9:00 AM
Where: Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA
Divisions: Age Group, Relays
Distance: 1/3 mile lake swim, 15 mile bike, 3.2 mile run

This new race has be founded by Olympian Jarrod Shoemakerand and his coach Tim Crowley. The Marlborough Triathlon will offer a unique venue for athletes and spectators alike. Athletes will be treated to a five-mile bike loop course which will provide plenty of views for spectators along the race route.
Triathlon: Gloucester Triathlon
When: Sunday, August 9, 2009 - 9:00 AM
Where: Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA
Divisions: Age Group, Relays
Distance: 1/3 mile ocean swim, 17 mile bike, 3.2 mile run

This new race has be founded by pro triathlete Janda Ricci-Munn and Bill Burnett. The oldest fishing port in the country will provide athletes with an outstanding course designed to showcase Gloucester's maritime history and natural beauty.
"I am thrilled with the opportunity to spearhead this series," said Burnett, "what will set these three races apart from the rest is that they are being created and organized by top notch athletes, some of the best in the sport who understand all the necessary components that go into a truly incredible race."
Burnett's co-founders agree. Ricci-Munn added, "the combined experience that Jarrod, Tim, and I bring to these races will ensure a great experience for all."
Shoemaker concluded, "the passion that Bill and this team will bring to these races will no doubt set the standard for excellence and create what we believe will be the best sprint distance series in the country."
They do plan to have overall series winners (in a variety of categories) for those athletes who compete in all three events.
Registration for the series will open on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 9:00 AM Eastern. Racers will have the option to sign up for one, two, or all three races.
