Not many details are available at this time but it appears certain that we will see an announcement in the near future of a new Ironman 70.3 Series triathlon race in Asia. The 70.3 series already has races in Singapore and China and now it seems like Malaysia will get its own race as well in 2009. This would be the 32nd race in the global half iron distance triathlon series.

Putrajaya is a planned city located just south of Kuala Lumpur and is the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia. The planning of the modern city Putrajaya is being built according to a series of comprehensive policies and guidelines for land use, transportation system, utilities, infrastructure, housing, public amenities, information technology, parks and gardens.
Malaysia already boosts a fair share of triathlon races around the country:
- Ironman Malaysia - Langkawi
- A Famosa International Triathlon - Alor Gajah, Melaka
- Sarawak International Triathlon - Miri, Sarawak
- Kenyir Lake International Triathlon - Kenyir Lake, Terengganu
- Port Dickson International Triathlon - Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
- Desaru International Long Distance and Sprint Triathlon - Kota Tinggi, Johor

Earlier this year two other races were added to the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Series schedule, Ironman 70.3 Calgary and Ironman 70.3 Augusta. The bad news was that the Ironman 70.3 Newfoundland triathlon was cancelled.
