New Ireman 226 Challenge Triathlon Event in 2009

Nine years after the original Ireman, the long distance version will return in 2009 as the Ireman 226 Challenge. A simple 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run will now be available to be tackled along with the Half Ireman, currently Northern Ireland's only middle distance triathlon.

The original Ireman race took place in July 2000 over the full Ironman distance of 3.8km / 180km / 42.2km. The race was centered at Benone Beach on the north coast and still today it remains as Ireland's first and only long distance triathlon race. The race drew 55 entries, but only 41 brave soles started the race. There were triathletes from all over the British Isles, the USA and Malta.
