As expected the Ironman 70.3 Series race schedule changed a bit for 2009. As of now the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Series consists of 31 triathlon races up from last year’s number of 29 race. This year we saw the addition of 2 new races to the schedule, Calgary and Augusta. The 2009 schedule also includes the new race announced last year in New Orleans. All of these 2009 qualifying races will have slots for the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Clearwater, Florida in November. UPDATE: 2 new races in Asia have been added to the schedule, Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya in Malaysia and the Ironman 70.3 Philippines in the Philippines. This brings the number of races on the schedule this year to 33.
An Ironman 70.3 triathlon race consists of a 1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike and 13.1 mile Run. For additional details on the series go to the Ironman 70.3 website: http://www.ironman.com/events/ironman70.3

Other changes to the Ironman 70.3 Series schedule next year include:
- The demise of the Ironman 70.3 Newfoundland race, the cause was low number of participants in the two years the race was on the schedule.
- Two series race move around on the schedule, the race in Singapore moves from September to March and the Lake Stevens races moves from July to August.
- A new and unique change was added to the race in Boise, the race will now have an afternoon start time of 2:00 PM.
