Ironman 70.3 Singapore Moving to March in 2009

ironman 70.3 singaporeThe 2nd Annual running of the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore race just took place and again was very successful. Normally next year’s race is scheduled a year out, but now the next Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore triathlon race is only six months away. The still fairly new and popular Asian half ironman triathlon is being rescheduled and will now take place in March instead of September. The next running is now scheduled for March 22, 2009.

Singapore has a very tropical climate and is known for its hot and humid conditions. Average temperatures ranges are between 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius) to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) all year round so don't expect anything different in that sense.

One possible reason for the move is to give triathletes in the region an opportunity to do a 70.3 race in preparation for Ironman China which takes place close to four weeks later on the island of Hainan in southern China. A side benefit of the move is that athletes that qualify for Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Clearwater will now have several more months to train before race day in November.

The Ironman 70.3 Singapore website will soon start accepting race entries for next year, so keep checking the site for updates.

Reinaldo Colucci of Brazil, who was the defending champion at this year’s race but DNF'd because of cramps threw his name into the hat for next year’s March date. He stated after the race: “I hope to be back next year to try and win back my title. March is better for me and I am sure it is it is the same for many of these guys as well.”
