Rochesterfest Triathlon Added to Minnesota Tri Schedule

Rochester, Minnesota's third-largest city, gains a new triathlon. The new event will be part of the activities of the annual Rochesterfest celebration, which is set to celebrate 25 years in 2008.

The new triathlon event will feature Olympic (1.5km Swim, 40km Bike, 10km Run) and Sprint (400me Swim, 16km Bike, 5km Run) distance races. The swim will take place in Foster Arend Lake, a man-made lake in NW Rochester. The Olympic distance swim will consist of a two loops while the Sprint distance swim will feature a one loop course. The out and back bike course will take athletes North from Foster Arend Park to the city of Oronoco. The course has a few hills and the surface is very smooth on newer blacktop. The out and back run course will take athletes from T2 on the flat and scenic Rochester City Bike Paved Bike Trail towards downtown Rochester.

Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers in each division. All registered participants will have a chance to win a Trek Equinox 7 triathlon bike and other door prizes that will be given away after the race.

Registration is currently open for the new Rochesterfest Triathlon event and the prices are as follows:

Individual Entries - Olympic Distance:
  • $55 by April 1st
  • $65 between April 2nd - June 15th
  • $75 after June 15th

Individual Entries - Sprint Distance:
  • $45 by April 1st
  • $55 between April 2nd - June 15th
  • $65 after June 15th

Relay Teams - Olympic and Sprint Distances:
  • $100 by April 1st
  • $110 between April 2nd - June 15th
  • $120 after June 15th

- Non USAT members will need to purchase a one day membership for $10
- The field size for the inaugural event will be 500 athletes

A portion of each registration will benefit the UNITED WAY of Rochester, MN and its Imagination Library Program.
