The inaugural race for the new Triathlon One O One series is set to take place on Sunday, May 6th in Bradenton, FL with over 200 triathletes. Not only do we have a new triathlon series in North America, but Sunday's race will be the launch race for the new long distance format the event organizers plan on promoting around the world in the years to come.
This year the race series will have 3 triathlon races across North America (Florida, California, Nova Scotia) with a Championship race in November in Texas. The race will consist of a 1.86mi (3km) Swim, a 80.6mi (130km) Bike and a 18.6mil (30km) Run, for a total of 101.06 miles, hence the series name One O One. Racers will have 12 hours to complete the race. The new race distance gives triathletes a new option when looking for a long distance triathlon; it's in between a half (70.3 miles) and a full (140.6 miles) ironman distance race . The professional prize money at each race will be $50,000 and will be paid equally to the top 7 male and female professionals. On the amateur side, the top 5 in each age group will receive unique awards and prizes.
Triathlon fans will be able to follow the series online via coverage from Triathlon One O One media partners Insidetri.com and Slowtwitch.com.
We will have to wait and see what people think about the new race distance and their overall experience with the new event organizers. If you're a Triathlon One O One participant, let us know how it went and what you thought about the event with a comment on this blog entry.
