Ironman 70.3 Germany added to Race Schedule

flag of germany The Ironman 70.3 series continues to grow with the addition of the Ironman 70.3 Germany triathlon event. The German city of Wiesbaden will host the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Germany race on August 19th, 2007. The city of Wiesbaden is on the western side of Germany on the Rhein River, about 40km west of the city of Frankfurt. This will be the 6th Ironmand 70.3 triathlon event in Europe, the 23rd race in the Ironman 70.3 series and the only Ironman 70.3 competition in Germany.

The event will serve as a qualifying event for both the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 and the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship. It will have 100 qualifying slots for age group and pro athletes for the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Florida. It will also have 15 qualifying slots for the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship race in Kona, Hawaii. The race will also feature an “IronTeam” relay competition.

In the interview link posted previously, German native Normann Stadler hinted he might participate in this event as a warm up to Hawaii.

The inaugural Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 race was a success but had bike drafting complaints. You have to wonder what race organizers are planning as new races keep getting added to the Ironman 70.3 triathlon series. This year’s race could see as many as 2,300 triathletes, up from last year’s number of 1,583.
